~Basic information~

Name: Terra Viktoria Brekke

Age: 26

BirthPlace: Norway

Species: Werewolf – Alpha werewolf

Appearance: Terra is a medium to tall sized woman, standing at 5’11 in height. Her build is lean and elfin, being narrow through the hip and shoulder, though life in the forest has caused her to develop a rangy, muscled physique much like that of a runner, as will anyone living in such a harsh environment for so long. Her facial features are characteristically eastern-European, with high cheekbones and a slightly angular appearance. Grey-green eyes draw the attention most on her face, followed by a slender, long nose and full lips, her face framed by a tangle of dark brown locks she prefers to pull back from her face in a ponytail for practicality. Terra does not waste time with frivolities like vanity in her appearance, and she will never be accused of being a stunning beauty, however there is a savage grace and attractiveness to her.

Like most islanders, she dresses in whatever clothing is available to her, though she favours practical clothing such as tank-tops and jeans with walking boots. Her unusual identification marks are hidden when clothed, though because of her species far from secret, her possessing a small Egyptian ankh just under her left collarbone and written in her native tongue the words ‘Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, watching fearing, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before’ on the back of her right hip, just below the line that her trousers would normally sit at.

Physical trademarks: two tattoos, detailed above

Spoken Languages: English, Norwegian

PreIsland/Scientists roots: Island resident/Willing new comer – see history for explanation

Sexual orientation: Before the island – heterosexual, however now considers herself to be pansexual

Personality:

Terra is horribly blunt person. She speaks her mind without sugar coating it, uncaring and often not bothering to consider of how insulting it might seem. It isn’t that she wants to insult those around her (not all the time anyway) but it is just her nature – she fails to see the benefit in telling mistruths or speaking around the ‘elephant’ in the room. She tends to forget to switch of her ‘scientist’ head and therefore can constantly treat people like subjects or walking textbooks unless someone points it out to her, totally forgetting about tact and feelings (neither of which are her strong point anyway). Still, despite her many flaws, Terra is a good person at heart, though she sometimes strays from the path of morality, it is because of distraction rather or begin caught up in her emotions (or since the Island - her instincts) than any real badness, and while her words can cut, she generally speaks them because they are the truth, not simply to hurt.

Though she started out life retaining a kind of idealistic innocence to her, her time on the island had jaded her, turning her very cynical and bringing her naturally dry and sacastic wit to the fore. She has a strong protective streak towards her race, and does whatever is necessary to protect them, both out of instinctual camaraderie and a lingering guilt knowing her part in the creation of the werewolf strain. It is perhaps because of that guilt as much as her wounds from the betrayal of her former lover that she tends to hold people at a distance, letting only a few in close enough to get to know her beyond her walls.

As with all her race, since becoming a werewolf Terra has become far more instinct driven and slave to her impulses and emotions, temper being the hardest to control when pushed. This can lead to increased aggression in some interactions as well as unusual behaviours such as the urge to sniff a newcomer in greeting.

~History~

Family History/Childhood history up until now:

-2 categories combined -

Terra was born the second child of Ursula and Viktor Brekke, both world renowned scientists in their own right, with Ursula being one of the foremost authorities in neurosurgery, and Viktor leading ground breaking research in embryo-genetics. Raised in a highly competitive and academic house hold, Terra inherited her parents love of science and followed their footsteps into research, leaving her brother to do the rebellious thing for the both of them and run off to America to become a musician.

Though she had a decent enough upbringing, Terra was never particularly close with her work-a-holic parents for all she picked up many of their habits, though she and her brother remained close despite the geographic distance between them. She often wonders about him now - how he is, if he's settled down, if he worries about her and wonders why she dissapeared...

Terra attended Oxford University in England at the tender age of 16 having fast tracked her high school education with a combination of her high intelligence, ambition and her parents influence, from there she went on to graduate with an Honours degree in genetics at 19 before entering a Phd researching rare genetic disorders. Qualifying as a Doctor in Genetics by the age of 22, Terra was quickly snapped up by one of the leading research companies, her new job focusing on the human genome and its potential for minipulation and cloning. It was through here that she first came into contact with Angel Sanchez, the older, well respected and handsome scientist quickly becoming a personal hero in her eyes and causing her to develop a school-girl crush.

Because of this when he later offered her a chance to join him on a new, top secret, groundbreaking research venture she agreed without so much as a second thought. Something that she has been kicking herself over ever since.

Island History:

************

Terra came to the island willingly, however unlike most she came as a member of the organisation - a scientist. Young, naive and idealistic, it was the love of science that tempted her to the research (and perhaps slightly less than platonic feelings towards a colleague). It was everything she and any other research geneticist had ever dreamed of studying: the very forefront of multidisciplinary science – virology, anatomy, speciation, evolution, cellular and molecular biology… all mixed together in one beautiful mess to create new life forms. They were playing God and it was thrilling.

Even better she was doing it all under the guiding hand of Angel Sanchez himself - her personal academic idol, and secret crush. Those first years of research seemed like a dream to her now, walking along on a cloud, so enthusiastic, so in love with what she was doing. It didn't take long for her relationship with the Head scientist to progress to more than a simple mentor-mentee relationship as well, her youthful innocence no match for his well honed arts of seduction.

Reality came crashing down however when her little scientific bubble was burst by the brutal truth of what they were doing. Having focused on the theoretical and early clinical trials, the actual application of their research had not fully dawned on Terra - of course she had known the strains they were researching would be destined eventually for human usage, but she had always dimly thought of it as willing volunteers, or perhaps soldiers. Never had she considered forced human experimentation. Even then however, love and belief for what she had created, and perhaps more importantly, love and belief in the man whose bed she shared held her back in indecision, made her continue on even though she knew it was wrong. Things however came to a head when she assisted on her first and only forced human change, traumatised not only by the 'participant's' begging and cursing, but later when she witnessed them first hand try to end their life rather than live with what she had helped do to them.

Terra had never considered herself a bleeding heart, or overly sympathetic woman to the plights of others, and indeed she had always lived her life by the rules that ‘science just creates, it is up to politicians how to use it’, but seeing… it crossed the line. It changed beautiful, ground breaking science into monstrosity. And so, even then, still utterly naïve, still clinging to her belief in the person that had started all this, she had confronted her boss and lover, begging him, yelling at him, threatening him, anything to make him stop what he was doing before it was too late.

She often lay at night now, mulling over that scene, what she had honestly thought would happen. Perhaps she had thought Angel would be moved by her pleas, realise that deep down he WAS a good man and that she was right, that what they were doing was beyond wrong. Perhaps she thought that she was to important, to  pivotal to the research to dispose of. Or perhaps just underestimating his complete soul-less ruthlessness.

Either way, her reward for her morality, for her stupid fool belief in love and right, was to be thrown into the labs as a test subject for the very creations she had helped birth. As an added cruelty her fate was chosen to be the line she herself had developed, the youngest and least stable of the lines – the Werewolf.

The message was clear – it didn’t matter who or what you were. The Organisation always won, and there was no room within it for morality or emotions. Everything else was just a disposable pawn. Including her.

Since then Terra has changed a lot, that sweetness and innocence that she once possessed long gone now, lost to the bitterness and the harsh reality of life as a beast. However in a backhanded turn of events, guilt and a feeling of responsibility prevented her from simply letting go and loosing herself to the madness of the wolf within as she had so ached to do. Instead when she had balanced on that cusp, she had looked around instead, watching her brothers and sisters as they whimpered and cried, slave to the animal they had become she realised that though she could never redeam herself for her part in this monstrosity, at the very least she owed it to them to help them adapt.

And so she wound up with the unsought after position of Alpha wolf, asserting athority and control (as much as anyone can on her breed), offering them structure and support, her pack growing with each successive member released from the labs. There are only a few on the island truly aware of her past now, bar the scientists themselves, and while some of them make sure she never forgets, Terra honestly feels now that the human she was is long dead. She is a wolf now. There is no going back for her.

~Role Play Sample~

Terra ran her thumb over the amber pendant in her hand, the gleaming surface catching the light and illuminating the flying insect within.

It was a silly thing really - a frivolity in this life were an items practicality dictated its price and worth. Long gone were the days that beauty was idolised, though honestly she had never much cared for pomp like other girls. This however... this necklace had always been her one indulgence. The amber was real, as was the trapped mosquito within. A genuine fossil from millions of years ago, that quite possibly fed off a dinosaur or early prehistoric mammal before meeting it's sticky end, now cut and polished up and hung on a slender silver chain as an orniment.

If she had any sense at all she should have pulled it from her neck and bartered it with the birds - the winged arians notoriously vein and frivolous to the eyes of her kind. They still revered beauty, despite its uselessness. She could fetch a pretty price with something as unusual as this. But for some reason she couldn't quite bring herself to do it. The one last link to her old life, to the human she used to be - the one she told herself died in these woods that first night so long ago now.

Her brother had been the one to give it to her - his graduation present when she had gained her degree. She could still remember it so well now - her parents hadn't been able to attend, but he had flown back from America especially. She'd come out of that hall still in her cap and gown to see his beaming smile, warm eyes laughing with humour and pride. Closing her eyes, she still smell his cologne and feel the lingering warmth of his hug.

'Proud of you kitten. I know you'll go on to do great things," he had said to her, pulling back with a wink and fishing the necklace out of his pocket to give to her. 'Picked this up back in Yanks-ville for you. Figured it was appropriate since you'll be making a real life Jurassic park one day knowing you.'

She had laughed at the time and let him hang it about her neck, just touched by the gesture and amused at the joke. Now it almost seemed as though it had been an omen all along. She really should have known better than to try... everyone more or less died in Jurassic park after all. If ever there was a argument for not playing god, that film was it.

A soft breath left her lips as she closed her fist around the amber pendant again, mind lingering on the thoughts of her sibling, indulging for once. What would he be like now? Still alive? Married? Kids maybe...

"Terra, there's another been released for the labs."

Snapping out of her melancholy at the sound of the voice, the alpha wolf lifted her head, eyes resting on the muscular form of her packmate where he stood a respectful distance away. Expression closing off, she tucked her necklace back under the rough cotton shirt she was wearing, pushing aside all thoughts of her past life and letting her lycan personality assert itself again. Standing up she cracked her back before moving purposefully in the direction of the labs.

"Then call the others - we should go greet our new brother or sister."

She had more important things to do than sit and dwell on a past life. She had her wolves to look to. They were her family now, all the family she would ever have again.
